Video Vignettes Set For Online Launch

This is one of 3 video postcards which were unveiled at the Glasshouse Hotel in Sligo as part of the Open Day of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2015, and streamed live on Twitter, as part of a simultaneous broadcast going live on Ocean FM. The videos were produced over a 2 month period earlier this year and focus on three of the strengths of Sligo, its tourism, business and people. They were produced and directed by Micheál Ó Domhnaill of Sligo-based production company Omedia and filmed by the talented Peter Martin.

"We were asked to come up with something which would invigorate the view of Sligo, especially those who want to find out more about Sligo as a holiday destination or as a place to set up business," said Micheál Ó Domhnaill. "We wanted to show people what makes Sligo such a special place to visit and live in, and at the same time do it in a way that makes maximum use of the incredible scenery in the county."

The resulting film footage is hugely impressive. A mix of aerial footage, mixed in with iconic scenic locations like Ben Bulben, Strandhill, Rosses Point and Sligo town centre all feature in these short video montages, which also feature some of the leading business figures in Sligo who speak about their positive experiences of living and working in the region.

Gail McGibbon, Sligo town centre co-ordinator and the head of the commissioning team who produced these videos says that "It was really important to us to promote Sligo in this the year of Yeats 150, and also with the Fleadh Cheoil making a return after last year's incredible festival. This was an opportunity to bring Sligo to the attention of a really wide audience, and through posting these video postcards online, we hope that through sharing on social media, we will reach a whole new audience of potential visitors to Sligo."

The launch of the vignettes will also be streamed live on Twitter, beginning at 9am on Friday and continuing until 11am. This will coincide with the live broadcast on Ocean FM, which will also feature the launch of the Fleadh Cheoil, featuring lots of music and conversation, providing all of the information needed for the public ahead of the returrn of the biggest traditional Irish music festival in the world next August 9th-16th.

Sligo has also recently been awarded a Purple Flag, the international standard for town centre activities and engagement, and this, along with the major festivals taking place in Sligo this Summer, should ensure that Sligo has a real opportunity to compete with other destinations as a great place to live and do business.
